Abstract

The paper investigates the exploration and the protection of the lunar environment due to the
unbridled scientific advances, and perhaps, to minimize any errors that may become irreparable. Space
resources are great value to all mankind, and their exploration is permitted by art. 2 of the Space Treaty and art.
1 of the Moon Agreement. The study of this area and the understanding of how sustainability and environmental
protection of the Moon are also detailed under the SDG 16 panorama focusing on legal pluralism and human
rights. The foundations of this research are the internationalist space doctrine, Artemis Accords, Planetary
Protection Policy (PPP) and the Declaration on the Environment. The method used was bibliographical
research that allowed to obtain results that the international environmental norm can be used in Space Law, but
an international agreement or treaty is necessary to avoid contamination of (ultra)terrestrial space.
